As scuba divers, we have been trained never to hold our breath whilst diving. We rely on our heavy, and often cumbersome equipment to enable us to enjoy the underwater world- but what if we were to take it away?……….
We are very pleased to bring to you our new and exciting workshop, Freediving, and introduce our workshop leader Marcus Greatwood, international Freediving coach and instructor.
Freediving Workshop with NoTanx
Marcus has coached 5 world records with Herbert Nitsch, including the 214m NoLimits record set in 2007. Marcus has coached athletes of many disciplines, set 12 National records, and personally held several UK records in “depth apnea”
Working with fellow professionals such as Herbert Nitsch, and studying a post grad in Learning Psychology helped Marcus develop the complete training system “NTStyle”. This can be used by athletes, scuba divers, golfers and Freedivers alike.
The key is relaxation, and the techniques Marcus teaches are used in a huge variety of situations, as well as enjoying the Oceans.
Those of you who visit the dives shows may have seen Marcus and his “NoTanx” team. At each show they have a huge presence, giving talks and free try sessions. Marcus himself has a great energy; his calm and relaxed approach to his training would put anyone at ease.
The week’s workshop is designed for absolute beginners to Freediving, and includes the Foundation and Open Water Course in the price. Intermediate and skilled Freedivers are welcome to join and take advantage of the further coached activities.
The foundation course is a 1 day course that covers the basic philosophy and techniques of NTStyle Apnea. The course includes 4 theory sessions, 2 practical sessions, and 1 practical exam covering:

Once the Foundation and Open Water courses are complete you will be able to spend the rest of the week enjoying and practising your new Freediving skills. For those who would like further coaching, Marcus is on hand to offer help in guidance in the following activities:
Dry exercises (Inc: Yoga, breathing and relaxation techniques)
Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari have their own protected and sheltered bays that lends themselves perfectly to practice and training, the outer reefs (north & south) drop away gently from 10m to 60m with spectacular hard and soft coral formations, and an abundance of marine life. For dry exercises, such as yoga, breathing and relaxation techniques there’s a beautiful long stretch of beach that envelops the Marsa, can you think of a better view!
Shagra and Nakari have the most richest and most pristine house reefs in Southern Egypt and have been declared a protected area for the last 20 years. The house reefs are home to around 300 species of fish and 100 species of coral, there are also claims that there are at least 5 endemic species living in the protected baya, and to top all of these bays are also occasionally frequented by some pelagic species such as dolphins and manta rays.
The villages themselves have a very calm and laid back feel, you have the choice of 5 styles of accommodation that should suit most tastes and budgets, ranging from the “how it all began” Beach Safari tents, to air-conditioned Madyafa Guest Houses, for those who prefer their creature comforts.
